AFSAANA...
In Urdu, Afsaana means to tell a story.
Geeta, the Founder and Artistic Director of Afsaana Dance, has been trained in both South Indian (Bharatnatyam) and North Indian (Kathak) classical dance styles, but her first love is Hindi Film Dance! To Geeta, it is not a style, but a culture. It’s a combination of the classical, folk and tribal dance styles of India. Hindi Film Dance is about understanding the spirit and emotions of South Asian culture.

ABOUT US
Creating One Story At A Time
Afsaana Dance Company was created in 2011Â when Founder and Artistic Director, Geeta (she/her), was able to put a label on how she had felt her entire dance life: that dance was not inclusive, nor diverse. So she created a space for herself!
Afsaana Dance Company provides a unique perspective of traditional South Asian movements and contemporary innovations. Geeta has found a delicate balance in fusing Indian classical and folk styles with Western methods.
PURPOSE AND INTENT
To inspire a lasting love and appreciation for dance through artistic excellence, inspiring performances and creative choreography. We are committed to building a community that lives up to our belief, that dance is for everyone. Dance is a powerful vehicle for lifelong learning, well-being, transformation, and progress.
Inclusion, Diversity, Equity and Access
Afsaana Dance Company is dedicated to creating meaningful change by fostering and supporting a space that honors what is unique in all of us. We recognize our responsibility to be an inclusive and open organization for artists, students, volunteers, and clients of all backgrounds.
